Information needed for a boat transport quote

- Overall length, maximum width and transport height, including equipment that will remain fitted.
- Actual transport weight, including the trailer if one will be used.
- Whether the boat has its own trailer and the trailer’s condition.
- Pickup and delivery addresses, marina contacts and access restrictions.
- Available lifting or loading facilities at both ends and preferred dates.

Loading, unloading and trailer arrangements
Let us know whether the vessel will be on land, on a trailer or in the water at pickup. If lifting is needed, confirm who will arrange the marina or boatyard equipment and when it will be available. Loading and unloading arrangements must be agreed before the carrier arrives.
If the boat travels on its own trailer, provide information about the tires, bearings, lights, brakes and coupling. The transporter must confirm whether the trailer is suitable for the intended move.
Preparing the boat for the journey
Follow the transporter’s and boatyard’s preparation instructions. Discuss loose gear, removable fittings, covers and any special support requirements in advance. Take clear photos of the vessel and keep a record of its condition before loading.
Arrange for someone authorized to hand over the boat and someone to receive it. Inspect the vessel at delivery and record any concerns before signing the transport paperwork.
What affects the price and schedule?
Distance, vessel dimensions and weight, trailer requirements, lifting arrangements and route restrictions all affect planning. Oversize moves may require permits or other arrangements for the states on the route. Confirm who handles these requirements and what the written quote includes.
